Nominations FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are Business Insurance's U.S. Insurance Awards?

A recognition program launched in 2017 that highlights the achievements of insurance and risk management professionals. Most of the awards recognize the achievements of teams of professionals working on specific projects or programs.

When will the awards be presented?

At the live event on July 19, 2023 in New York City. The event will also see the presentation of the 2023 Business Insurance Lifetime Achievement Award, the 2023 Innovation Award winners and is also a fundraiser for the BI Scholarship Endowment.

How can I make a nomination for the U.S. Insurance Awards?

Nominations must be submitted using the form on the website March-April 2023. The nomination period has been extended to May 10, 2023.

Who can make a nomination?

Anyone familiar with the nominees can make the nomination.

When does the nomination process end?

The extended nomination submission deadline is Wednesday, May 10, 2023. Submissions are due by 11:59pm EST.

When will the winners be notified?

Finalists will be notified by early June, but the winners will not be announced until the LIVE awards event on July 19, 2023 in New York. Winner profiles will be featured in the September 2023 issue of Business Insurance.

How will the nominees be judged?

Business Insurance editors will review the nominations and narrow them down to finalists. A panel of insurance and risk management professionals will review the finalists and select the winners.

What makes a good nomination?

Nominations that provide a clear narrative combined with facts and data to support the assertions in the narrative — for example, reduced total cost of risk by xx%, conceived and launched a new product, reduced claims by $xxx, increased revenue by $xxx, cut claims payment/policy issuance time by xx days. Remember, the judges likely will not be familiar with details of the team’s work and they will be making their assessments based on the 500-word descriptions that you provide. All the judges are knowledgeable about insurance and risk management, but they are not experts in all fields, so avoid jargon where possible. Concrete examples are easier to understand than conceptual descriptions. Profiles of the winning entries from last year were published in the November 2022 edition of Business Insurance.

I want to nominate a team, but can I remain anonymous?

No, we need to know who you are, though we don’t share nominator information with any third parties.

Will more than one nomination from the same company be accepted?

You can nominate multiple teams from one company, providing they all meet the criteria for each category.

Will I be informed if my nomination is not selected as a finalist?

We do not contact unsuccessful applicants; however, the full list of finalists will be available at BusinessInsurance.com in early June.
